Northern India Journey - Day 1 New Delhi - 13/12/2010

Tonight, I arrived my travel place, India, where I’d longed for visiting for nearly 2 years. I was finally there!!! Unexpectedly not waiting too long for the luggage and then I went to the money exchange to get some Indian rupees. I didn’t changed all the HK dollars into rupees as I thought I wouldn't end up using all the money there and keep myself alert about using money (hopefully). After leaving the luggage area, I have finally seen the guy who picked me up to the hostel. I felt a bit sorry that he's been waiting for a while since my flight was delayed.

But, it made me a bit confused, as the one who hold the name paper wasn't the one who were actually drove me to the hostel. At the end, I met the guy and I have seen few more people “joined” me for the ride. But we were leaded separately and went to different cars. When the man took me to the car-park, he seemed give me no help, like sometime I had some difficulties in taking my bags. Anyway, I finally saw my car. That is a quite old style van that you can probably see them everywhere in India. When I almost arrived the hostel, I felt quite insecure as the area was really dark and a bit fuzzy. (There is Paharganj area, but all backpackers go this place.) Before I walked to the hostel, the driver asked me for the tips. This was the first thing I have to learn or to tackle in India. (It's so common in the whole India.) For this learning, I paid 70 rupees. I am quite stupid for that. Then, the driver took me to the hostel. We walked thought some small alleys to get to the hostel.

That is a small hostel in the corner of the area which is not a very obvious place to let you get there easily. The people there were OK. The room I stayed was just a small one with a double bed and a washroom in a hostel standard, but what can you expect in that price, right? So what I could do was just have a bath (with time-limited hot water) and went to sleep in a quite dusty blanket (Another thing that show my bad preparation for this trip is I didn't bring a sleeping-bag!!!!)

So this is my first day of the Journey.
